Some students at Montana State University made a documentary about the making of the movie and had to ask for time off from the set to go graduate. ![]() One of the child stars in the film, “little Brad Pitt,” still lives here and has stories to tell about Redford and Pitt, who wasn't the big fish he is today. ![]() The film was almost made by a couple of Montana-based writers, who would have filmed it on the Blackfoot River, before Robert Redford decided he wanted to make it. The truth is, the actors who landed trout in the film didn’t really “catch” the fish, and they couldn’t cast very well.
